I confess I've never really cared much about party politics, and I'm sometimes not on top of current events, but there are issues I feel very strongly about.
I affirm the following principles:
--from the Principles and Purposes of the Unitarian Universalist Association.
"The inherent worth and dignity of every person" includes gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) persons. I feel strongly that it is time for heterosexuals to start standing up for GLBT rights and against homophobia. I've had a lot of GLBT friends over the years, and I'm coming out of the closet as a straight ally.
One of the problems I have with Christianity as it is practiced is its tendency to promote intolerance. (I doubt Jesus would approve.) I think it's important, as individuals and as a society, that we not only tolerate but fully accept one another, and that we celebrate our diversity. I think if we approach each other with open hearts and minds, we will enrich one another's lives with our differences.
